Goodbye 2006, Welcome 2007! Awaaz Anjane wishes all its listeners a very Happy New Year as we put out the party episode. A song from both of us was long overdue so we thought what better occasion than ringing in the New Year. Groove to our song and listen to remixes by DJ Kaser and his group Lost Sounds Entertainment from DC, Virginia and Maryland. Thanks all of you for supporting us with your musical performances and comments. We look forward to an exciting journey in 2007 in Indian music with you on our side.

Pre-recorded music tracks or karaoke tracks, as they are commonly called, started a whole new industry. It encouraged a new breed of music lovers who could now sing their favorite songs without needing a live band. Along with introducing the very talented singers and composers, Awaaz Anjane has been covering the pre-recorded track manufacturing industry as well through interviews with the hindi karaoke pioneer Aniruddh, London-based independent track maker Shahid and in this episode through Harshal Mulherkar. Founder of the online hindi karaoke club Taranaa.com, Harshal reveals the story behind how this online karaoke software and the company was formed in a confluence of need, musical passion and software skills. Listen to not just Harshal’s stories, but his own song as well. Members of the club talk about various club activities and Asim sings a beautiful track created by Harshal himself. An original composition by Harshal’s cousin Gulraj completes the treat.
Happy Listening!

Awaaz Anjane pays tribute to Raj Kapoor, India’s greatest showman, on his birthday today. Raj Kapoor’s popularity had spread beyond India to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the former Soviet Union. His visit to Soviet Union with Nargis brought cheering crowds everywhere. In the inimitable Awaaz Anjane style, we celebrate Raj Kapoor’s birthday through the voice of Elmar RajSur. Originally from Azerbaijan and now living in Moscow, Elmar was so influenced by Raj Kapoor movies and the songs that he has become a professional Indian singer in Moscow. Elmar describes Raj Kapoor’s visit to Baku City and draws out the early connection that Raj Kapoor had with the most popular Azuri singer Rashid Behbudov. In a candid conversation with Deb, Elmar talks about how he taught himself the language and hindi songs, about his idol Suresh Wadkar and his trip to India last year. In between, he enthralls us with some incredible songs from Raj Kapoor movies and some of his other favorites. Today, December 14, is Elmar’s birthday as well, so we wish him a very happy birthday.
Happy Listening!

Santosh from New Jersey, featured earlier on Awaaz Anjane in Episode 13, delivers another superlative performance. And as you let us know through your feedback, we will try to present more songs by your favorite performers. Like we promised you in the last episode, this week we travel to another continent. Soumitra talks to us from Down Under. An extremely talented singer, he talks about his early years in music, takes us through few Kishore Kumar and Kumar Shanu songs and shares with us his views on life and music in Canberra. Always looking to reach new highs, Soumitra then delivers an amazing rendition of the very famous Kunal Ganjawala song.
