Minoo Purshottam – a voice introduced to Hindi film-music lovers in early sixties by Roshan, was still in her teens when she sang the memorable duet in Taj Mahal with Suman Kalyanpur. Four decades later, her voice still touches the heart of everyone in the audience, as she weaves a spell of magic with her self-composed ghazals and bhajans. The new season of Awaaz Anjane kicks off with Minooji’s august presence, and she talks about those early days of recordings, when duet singers would share a single microphone! She takes us down memory lane to those melodies from Daag, Ye Raat Phir Na Aayegi, Chunauti and her co-stars Lata, Asha, Md. Rafi, Mukesh, Talat Mehmood among others. We come to know how Mehdi Hassan inspired her to take to ghazals and how she came to settle in the US. More than a brilliant performer, legends like Minooji are a storehouse of knowledge and philosophy, as she explains how to slow down in life and enrichen oneself. The easy-going conversation, the songs from yersteryears and a stirring devotional number make this episode a memorable one.
Happy Listening!
